IDT completes acquisition of Tundra Semiconductor
SAN JOSE, Calif., 4 July 2009. Integrated Device Technology Inc. (IDT), a provider of essential mixed signal semiconductor solutions, completed its acquisition of all the shares of Tundra Semiconductor Corp. for an aggregate cash consideration of roughly $120.8 million Canadian.

Lockheed Martin delivers first Target Sight System production unit to U.S. Marine Corps
ORLANDO, Fla., 3 July 2009. Lockheed Martin officials delivered the first Target Sight System (TSS) production unit to the U.S. Marine Corps. The TSS is the multi-sensor fire control system for the U.S. Marine Corps' AH-1Z Cobra helicopter.

Boeing team to develop spacecraft power system for DARPA
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif., 2 July 2009. An industry team led by Boeing won a contract from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) for work on Phase 2 of the Fast Access Spacecraft Testbed (FAST) program. The $15.5 million cost-plus-fixed-fee contract is currently funded to $13.8 million.

GA-ASI completes successful first flights of Lynx radar on Sky Warrior UAV
SAN DIEGO, 1 July 2009. General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA ASI) announced that its Lynx Block 30 Synthetic Aperture Radar/Ground Moving Target Indicator (SAR/GMTI) radar has completed two successful test flights on a Sky Warrior Block 1 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in support of the planned Quick Reaction Capability (QRC) deployment of the first four Sky Warrior aircraft under the U.S. Army Extended Range/Multi-Purpose (ER/MP) UAV Program.

ITT to provide additional JCREW 2.1 electronic warfare systems to jam IEDs
McLEAN, Va., 30 June 2009. U.S. Navy officials are buying an additional 548 vehicle-mounted electronic warfare systems designed to jam and neutralize radio-controlled improvised explosive devices (IEDs) under terms of a $36.3 million contract awarded Friday to the ITT Defense Electronics & Services segment in McLean, Va.

Lockheed Martin to operate Fort Bragg Field Logistics Readiness Center
LAUREL, Md., 29 June 2009. Lockheed Martin won a new contract to manage the Field Logistics Readiness Center (FLRC) at Fort Bragg, N.C. The contract is valued at $203 million over a five year period of performance and was awarded under the Field & Installation Readiness Support Team (FIRST) contract vehicle.

VDC Research Group: Embedded/real-time market to contract this year

According to VDC Research, headquartered in Natick, Mass., the 2008 embedded and real-time operating system market demonstrated 9 percent revenue growth over 2007, largely due to demand for software-driven functionality, mounting device safety and security. Yet, 2009 forecasts show the first industry contraction since 2002. Competition will rise under these conditions and vendors must position their products to meet the requirements of a changing market.

Network centric warfare airborne military communications links approved for deployment

U.S. Air Force officials are planning to switch an airborne military communications networking link from prototype stage to deployment, which will provide a tactical data link gateway that links fighting forces in the field that are using dissimilar tactical networks in network centric warfare operations.

Defense electronics employees to be laid off at BAE Systems in effort to sharpen market focus
NASHUA, N.H., 25 June 2009. Leaders of the BAE Systems Electronic Solutions segment in Nashua, N.H., are set to lay off 250 non-engineering employees by 31 Aug. in an effort to sharpen the company's focus on small, lightweight military electronics systems for infantry soldiers, situational awareness, and other priorities of the Obama Administration, company officials announced today.
