Navy shipboard power designers look to Altair Nano for warship UPS development RENO, Nev., 31 May 2009. Power electronics designers at Altair Nanotechnologies Inc. in Reno, Nev., won a $3.8 million contract award from the U.S. Office of Naval Research (ONR) to research and design a large-scale nano lithium titanate military battery systems for possible use as an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) for Navy warship applications.
UltraCell gains $3.8 million, to expand production and sales LIVERMORE, Calif., 30 May 2009. UltraCell Corp., a producer of fuel cells for mobile power applications, announced $3.8 million in new funding, to be used to scale manufacturing at the company's facility in Dayton, Ohio -- the first and only volume-production micro fuel cell facility in North America. The company will also expand sales, marketing, and field trial testing of its flagship product, the UltraCell XX25 portable fuel cell.
Unmanned vehicle spending in the 2010 DOD budget to reach $5.4 billion WASHINGTON, 28 May 2009. Leaders of the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) propose spending $23.67 billion in fiscal year 2010 for procurement and research in military communications, electronics, telecommunications, and intelligence (CET&I) technologies, which would represent a slight decrease of 0.13 percent from current-year enacted levels of $23.7 billion, according to Pentagon budget documents.
