Navy shipboard power designers look to Altair Nano for warship UPS development
RENO, Nev., 31 May 2009. Power electronics designers at Altair Nanotechnologies Inc. in Reno, Nev., won a $3.8 million contract award from the U.S. Office of Naval Research (ONR) to research and design a large-scale nano lithium titanate military battery systems for possible use as an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) for Navy warship applications.
UltraCell gains $3.8 million, to expand production and sales
LIVERMORE, Calif., 30 May 2009. UltraCell Corp., a producer of fuel cells for mobile power applications, announced $3.8 million in new funding, to be used to scale manufacturing at the company's facility in Dayton, Ohio -- the first and only volume-production micro fuel cell facility in North America. The company will also expand sales, marketing, and field trial testing of its flagship product, the UltraCell XX25 portable fuel cell.
Unmanned vehicle spending in the 2010 DOD budget to reach $5.4 billion
WASHINGTON, 28 May 2009. U.S. military forces plan to spend nearly $5.4 billion next year on unmanned vehicle (UV) technology for air, ground, and maritime applications, according to identifiable unmanned vehicle line items in the fiscal 2010 U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) budget, which was released in May and sent to Congress for consideration.
Printed circuit board shipments decline sharply during first four months of 2009
BANNOCKBURN, Ill., 27 May 2009. Shipments of North American rigid printed circuit boards over the first four months of 2009 were down 27.7 percent over the same period in 2008, while rigid circuit board bookings in the first four months of 2009 were down 33.7 percent over the same period last year, according to analysts at the IPC Association Connecting Electronics Industries in Bannockburn, Ill.

Bell Helicopter sells 24 Model 407 helicopters destined for Iraqi air force
FORT WORTH, Texas, 25 May 2009. The U.S. Army awarded Bell Helicopter a $60.3 million contract for 24 of its Model 407 helicopters, which the Army will provide to the Iraqi air force as part of a planned foreign military sale to Iraq.
2010 DOD budget proposes increases for Navy, DARPA spending; Army faces big cuts

Leaders of the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) are proposing modest increases in procurement and research spending for the U.S. Navy, as well as the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), yet the U.S. Air Force faces small reductions, while U.S. Army leaders are facing cuts of more than 17 percent in procurement and research.

DOD budget for 2010 proposes $23.67 billion for military communications, electronics, and intelligence
WASHINGTON, 20 May 2009. Leaders of the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) propose spending $23.67 billion in fiscal year 2010 for procurement and research in military communications, electronics, telecommunications, and intelligence (CET&I) technologies, which would represent a slight decrease of 0.13 percent from current-year enacted levels of $23.7 billion, according to Pentagon budget documents.
Power electronics blends with engine technology for integrated UAV propulsion solutions
