Navy seeks to improve satellite electronics for navigation and guidance
ARLINGTON, Va., 12 Nov. 2009. U.S. Navy researchers are asking industry for ways to shield the Global Positioning System (GPS) and other military navigation and guidance systems from enemy attempts to jam or disrupt their ability to guide U.S. fighting forces and smart munitions.

Microprocessor designer Cavium Networks in Mountain View, Calif., has agreed to buy embedded Linux software supplier MontaVista Software Inc. in Santa Clara, Calif., in a move reminiscent of last June when microprocessor giant Intel Corp. acquired real-time embedded software expert Wind River Systems.

The test highlighted recent product improvements of the system to give it a longer reach, maintaining its accuracy and effectiveness while minimizing potential collateral damage.

Finland contribution to deliver radition detection equipment to prevent proliferation of weapons of mass destruction
HELSINKI, 31 Oct. 2009. U.S. Ambassador Bruce J. Oreck and Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Pertti Torstila signed a Memorandum of Understanding through which the Government of Finland will contribute funding to a U.S.-led program to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction in the Kyrgyz Republic. Finland's contribution will be used to provide radiation detection equipment to the Kyrgyz Republic to detect and deter nuclear smuggling across international borders.
