Army UGV order marks first buy of iRobot PackBot 510 unmanned ground vehicles BEDFORD, Mass., 8 May 2009. Officials of the U.S. Army Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training, and Instrumentation (PEO STRI) in Orlando, Fla. needed unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) for explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) applications. They found their solution in the PackBot 510 UGV with EOD kits from iRobot Corp. in Bedford, Mass.

Aerospace electronics firm Heico Corp. acquires military power electronics expert VPT Inc. HOLLYWOOD, Fla., 6 May 2009. The Heico Corp. Electronic Technologies Group (ETG) in Hollywood Fla., which specializes in aerospace electronics technology, is acquiring a majority share of military power supplier VPT Inc. in Blacksburg, Va., to improve Heico's offerings in mission critical solutions in high-reliability military power supplies.
Rockwell Collins to develop damage tolerance avionics for unmanned vehicle applications CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa, 5 May 2009. Researchers at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, are developing damage tolerance military avionics for unmanned vehicle applications under terms of a contract from the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) in Arlington, Va.
Lockheed Martin team to pursue Navy's CANES Program SAN DIEGO, 4 May 2009. Lockheed Martin announced that General Dynamics, ViaSat Inc., Harris Corp., and American Systems will be a part of its industry team pursuing the competitive contract for the U.S. Navy's Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services (CANES) program.
Armored vehicle and vetronics project advances; M-ATV contract expected by July WARREN, Mich., 3 May 2009. U.S. Army officials last week took another step toward equipping its forces with an armored vehicle and vetronics that is light and maneuverable enough for off-road use in Afghanistan, but is rugged enough to survive blasts from improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Swedish Space Corp. acquires Universal Space Network SOLNA, Sweden, 2 May 2009. The Swedish Space Corp. (SSC), a global provider of mission critical systems and services to the aerospace industry, has received all necessary approvals from the U.S. government and has completed the acquisition of U.S.-based Universal Space Network (USN), a provider of space operations for telemetry, tracking, and control services. USN will operate as a U.S. corporation and subsidiary of SSC with no change to its operation or organization.
FAA bird strike database now available to the public WASHINGTON, 30 April 2009. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will made its entire bird strike database available on a public website last week. Portions of the database have been publicly available since the information was first collected in 1990, but the public will now be able to access all of the database's fields.

Helicopter avionics specialists at two Canadian aerospace companies are blending lidar technology and computer simulation to create a virtual environment in helicopter cockpits to enable pilots to land safely in zero-visibility dust, smoke, and fog -- especially at night.
WIN-T military communications satellite terminal to get upgrade from Communications & Power PALO ALTO, Calif., 29 April 2009. The U.S. Army's Warfighter Information Network-Tactical (WIN-T) military communications satellite electronics will receive an upgrade from Communications & Power Industries Inc. (CPI) in Palo Alto, Calif., under terms of a $3 million contract from DataPath Inc. in Duluth, Ga.
