New Century Companies Inc. has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Precision Aerostructures Inc. through a cashless merger. Precision Aerostructures manufactures structural aircraft components and assemblies, serving customers in defense, government systems, aerospace, and commercial markets.

A VME embedded computing industry working group in place to suggest system interoperability guidelines for the VPX (VITA 46) high-speed computer switch fabric -- the OpenVPX Industry Working Group -- has completed the OpenVPX draft V0.8 specification, paving the way for final ratification by year's end.

Raytheon Co. in Waltham, Mass., has agreed to acquire BBN Technologies in Cambridge, Mass., to enhance Raytheon's capabilities in technology research and development (R&D). BBN developed the ARPANET -- forerunner of the Internet -- as well as the Boomerang acoustic-based shooter detection system, and other mission-critical military and intelligence systems.

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in Washington granted a supplemental type certificate (STC) for a synthetic vision system glass cockpit avionics setup from the Cobham Avionics and Surveillance segment in Mineral Wells, Texas, for use on the Cessna 550 Citation II business jet.

Flight simulator network for distributed training of C-17 cargo jet pilots to open at Scott AFB ST. LOUIS, 1 Sept. 2009. U.S. Air Force C-17 cargo jet pilots will be able to train on an interactive flight simulator network that engineers at the Boeing Co. in St. Louis are set to build at Scott Air Force Base, Ill. Boeing will create a simulator network of 10 existing C-17 flight simulators in the United States, using Scott Air Force Base as the hub.
Real time embedded systems computer to be provided to Ares I rocket by Aitech CHATSWORTH, Calif. 30 Aug. 2009. Aitech Defense Systems Inc. in Chatsworth, Calif., will provide real time embedded systems processing components for the Ares I launch vehicle's instrument unit avionics computer and command telemetry computer systems under terms of a contract from Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp.
