MIPS accelerates processor IP verification with Mentor Graphics Veloce emulation system WILSONVILLE, Ore., 2 Sept. 2009. Mentor Graphics Corp., maker of high-performance system verification solutions in Wilsonville, Ore., announced that MIPS Technologies, a microprocessor semiconductor IP company, has adopted the Veloce platform for the complete system-level verification of its licensable microprocessor cores that are used in a variety of embedded computing applications.

Laser weapons experts from Boeing and the U.S. Air Force defeated a ground target from the air with the Advanced Tactical Laser (ATL) aircraft Aug. 30 in ATL's first air-to-ground, high power laser engagement of a tactically representative target.
General Dynamics adds advanced embedded computing, brings JTRS HMS radios closer to battlefield SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., 1 Sept. 2009. The Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) Handheld, Manpack, Small Form Fit (HMS) team, led by General Dynamics C4 Systems, has added the Soldier Radio Waveform (SRW 1.0c) to the Rifleman Radio (AN/PRC-154) and the HMS Manpack Radio intended for use in vehicles. The embedded computing milestone places HMS first in line to bring the JTRS SRW 1.0c to dismounted soldiers for an unprecedented level of network connectivity, according to a company representative.

Raytheon Company's gallium nitride (GaN) chips have achieved 1,000 hours of reliable operation. The company is positioning GaN technology as the standard for next-generation radar capability for defense systems.

Photonics mast, electro-optical sensor suite for attack submarines to come from Kollmorgen NORTHAMPTON, Mass., 30 Aug. 2009. The Kollmorgen Corp. Electro-Optical Division in Northampton, Mass., won a $7.4 million U.S. Navy contract modification Thursday to build electro-optical components and other submarine sensor systems, as well as eight universal modular masts (UMM) and one UMM interface box unit for the U.S. Navy's Virginia-class fast attack submarine.

Technipower LLC (Technipower), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Solomon Technologies Inc., won a $700,000 production order for specialized power conversion equipment from a tier one defense contractor to support a key military combat environment simulator program.

SAT Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of Integral Systems Inc., and partner, TCI Corp. provided radio-frequency (RF) clearance and deconfliction support for the 5th Biennial Unmanned Systems Demonstration at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station, Webster Field Annex. The event featured live demonstrations of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and unmanned ground vehicles in a demanding environment consisting of more than 20 ground and air systems demonstrations.
