Microsatellite with advanced satellite electronics takes detailed images of California wildfires GUILDFORD, England, 16 Aug. 2009. An imaging microsatellite with advanced satellite electronics built by Surrey Satellite Technology Limited (SSTL) in Guildford, England, is transmitting detailed satellite images of California wildfires in the Los Padres National Forest east of Santa Maria just 16 days after the satellite's launch into the Disaster Monitoring Constellation (DMC) on 29 July.
Lockheed Martin-built system directs laser beam in Airborne Laser simulated engagement EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif., 15 Aug. 2009. Lockheed Martin officials anounced that the Beam Control/Fire Control system for the U.S. Missile Defense Agency's Airborne Laser (ABL) has focused and directed a low-power laser beam in an engagement with an instrumented, boosting missile target, resulting in a simulated intercept.
ITT wins $43 million U.S. Army order for enhanced night-vision goggles ROANOKE, Va., 14 Aug. 2009. ITT Corp. won $43 million in follow-on orders from the U.S. Army's Research, Development, and Engineering Command Acquisition Center for the Enhanced Night Vision Goggle (ENVG), and associated spare parts.
Crane wins Harris contract to supply T/R Module for WIN-T CHANDLER, Ariz., 14 Aug. 2009. Microwave Systems Solutions of Crane Aerospace & Electronics Group, a segment Crane Co., won a contract from Harris Corp. in Melbourne, Fla. Microwave Systems Solutions of Crane Electronics Group gained a development contract, with potential for annual production of more than $3 million, to manufacture a Transmit/Receive (T/R) Module for the Warfighter Information Network – Tactical.
Northrop Grumman MQ-8B Fire Scout completes RSTA/ISR demonstration WASHINGTON, 13 Aug. 2009 Northrop Grumman's (NYSE:NOC) land-based MQ-8B Fire Scout Vertical Unmanned Aircraft System (VUAS), designated P7, successfully demonstrated its reconnaissance surveillance, and target acquisition/intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (RSTA/ISR) capabilities this week at Yuma Proving Ground in Yuma, Ariz.
Army places order for more ground robots with iRobot WASHINGTON, 12 Aug. 2009. Officials at iRobot Corp. (NASDAQ: IRBT) announced that the company won a $5.1 million order from the U.S. Army TACOM Contracting Center in Warren, Mich., for its unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs).
Ball Aerospace to ship WISE spacecraft BOULDER, Colo., 12 Aug. 2009. Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp. has completed a comprehensive pre-shipment review for NASA's Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) satellite. The pre-shipment review was completed on August 4, following assembly and performance testing. Ball Aerospace engineers have packed the satellite into a shipping container for delivery in mid-August to California's Vandenberg Air Force Base.
RELM Wireless gains Department of Defense order for P25 KNG digital radios WEST MELBOURNE, Fla., 12 Aug. 2009. RELM Wireless Corp. won an order totaling $1.8 million from the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) for the company's new P25 KNG digital radio products and accessories. Company executives anticipate the order to be fulfilled during the third quarter of 2009.
L-3's Mobius makes first public flight at U.S. Navy Unmanned Systems Demonstration WASHINGTON, D.C., 11 Aug. 2009. L-3's Mobius, an optionally piloted aircraft system built by L-3 Communications, made its first public flight at the 5th Biennial Unmanned Systems Demonstration hosted by the U.S. Navy's Program Executive Office for Strike Weapons and Unmanned Aviation, in coordination with the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) at Patuxent River Naval Air Station's Webster Field Annex.
Army selects AAI Corp. to enhance Shadow tactical unmanned aircraft with all-digital tactical common data link HUNT VALLEY, Md., 11 Aug. 2009. AAI Corp., an operating unit of Textron Systems, a Textron Inc. company, won an award of more than $32 million from the U.S. Army Unmanned Aircraft Systems Project Office at Redstone Arsenal, Ala. According to the contract, AAI personnel will engineer and manufacture activities to enhance the Shadow Tactical Unmanned Aircraft System (TUAS) with the tactical common data link (TCDL).
