QinetiQ North America develops kit to transform Bobcat Loaders into robots MCLEAN, Va., 10 Aug. 2009. Engineers at QinetiQ North America, makers of the TALON robots used extensively to defuse roadside bombs in Iraq and Afghanistan, announced a new large-scale robotic capability that they developed jointly with Bobcat Co., manufacturer of Bobcat compact loaders, in response to the increasing size and lethality of roadside bombs and IEDs (improvised explosive devices).
Joint STARS surveillance radar systems to be demonstrated by Northrop Grumman HANSCOM AFB, Mass., 9 Aug. 2009. Radar systems designers at the Northrop Grumman Integrated Systems Western Region in El Segundo, Calif., will provide radar technology demonstration equipment for an upgraded Joint STARS surveillance radar under terms of a $27.2 million contract awarded Friday.

MEADS Program receives hardware design approvals, enters system-level CDR ORLANDO, Fla., 7 Aug. 2009. The Medium Extended Air Defense System (MEADS) program has successfully completed Critical Design Reviews (CDRs) for all major components, clearing the way for production of radars, launchers, tactical operation centers, and reloaders needed for system tests at White Sands Missile Range, N.M., Lockheed Martin officials say.
Infrared thermal camera for Indian Air Force C-130J aircraft to be supplied by FLIR Systems WILSONVILLE, Ore., 6 Aug. 2009. FLIR Systems Inc. in Wilsonville, Ore., will supply an infrared camera system to the Indian air force under terms of a $7.2 million Pentagon contract for foreign military sales. The thermal camera infrared surveillance system is the FLIR Star SAFIRE III infrared multisensor surveillance system, and will go aboard Indian C-130J surveillance aircraft.
Boeing delivers Harpoon missiles with updated guidance control ST. LOUIS, 5 Aug. 2009. Boeing [NYSE: BA] in June delivered the first four Harpoon Block II missiles equipped with a redesigned Guidance Control Unit (GCU), which provides growth capabilities and resolves obsolescence issues. The missiles were delivered to the U.S. Navy for transfer to two foreign military sales customers.
Laser designator electro optical sensor for military to be restored by Northrop Grumman APOKA, Fla., 4 Aug. 2009. Military laser experts at the Northrop Grumman Laser Systems segment in Apoka, Fla., are restoring and refurbishing U.S. Army laser systems that can recognize and designate targets for laser guided munitions, under terms of a $21.9 million contract.
Boeing rolls out U.S. Navy's P-8A Poseidon SEATTLE, 3 August 2009. Boeing [NYSE: BA] and the U.S. Navy formally unveiled the service's newest maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft, the P-8A Poseidon, during a ceremony at the Boeing facility in Renton, Wash.
Massive Ordnance Penetrator fit to B-2 would speed to next year if Congress agrees WASHINGTON, 2 Aug. 2009. The Pentagon is asking Congress for money to speed deployment of the 30,000-pound Massive Ordnance Penetrator bunker busting super bomb on the B-2 stealth bomber for potential use in heavily defended areas of the world, such as Iran and North Korea.
Raytheon wins prime development contract for Advanced Airborne Sensor DALLAS, 1 Aug. 2009. Raytheon Company won a multi-year contract from the U.S. Navy to begin development of the Advanced Airborne Sensor, the follow-on to the Littoral Surveillance Radar System (LSRS). The AAS program will equip the P-8A Poseidon, the Navy's next patrol maritime aircraft; LSRS is operational on Navy P-3C Orions. The AAS will provide airborne radar surveillance with next-generation, line-of-site capability.
