Boeing to build spin mechanism for Earth-Observing NASA spacecraft PASADENA, Calif., 20 July 2009. NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) awarded Boeing Integrated Defense Systems in El Segundo, Calif., a contract to provide a sensor subsystem for a new spacecraft that will help scientists understand the effects of global warming on water systems and crop yields. The terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Military radio communications contract for SINCGARS goes to ITT FORT WAYNE, Ind., 19 July 2009. The ITT Corp. Communications Systems segment in Fort Wayne, Ind., will provide about 58,000 SINCGARS military radio systems to the U.S. Army to give Army radio capability to brigade combat teams and tactical vehicles over the next several years.
RINI Technologies wins Army Commercialization Pilot Program contract ORLANDO, 18 July 2009. RINI Technologies is one of 25 companies selected to participate in the U.S. Army's 2009 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Commercialization Pilot Program (CPP), which will enable RINI to finish development of its soldier cooling system and get the system in the hands of soldiers in the field more quickly. RINI signed a $600,000 contract with the Army's Natick Solider Center with plans to transition the product to the Army Air Soldier Program.
U.S. Navy selects Lockheed Martin to develop secure information-sharing system SAN DIEGO, 17 July 2009. Lockheed Martin won from the U.S. Navy an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract to continue the development of Radiant Mercury, a secure multinational information-sharing system used by the Department of Defense. A cross-domain solution, Radiant Mercury is a critical component of many security domains used by DOD, national intelligence agencies, and U.S. coalition partners, says a representative.
U.S. Army's Fort Bliss to deploy AtHoc's netcentric mass notification system SAN MATEO, Calif. 17 July 2009. AtHoc Inc. has announced a deal with the U.S. Army's Fort Bliss to deploy a network-centric emergency alerting system. Fort Bliss, located in Texas and New Mexico, is the U.S. Army's largest training center. The deployment of AtHoc IWSAlerts IP-based mass notification system enable the command's emergency planners to deliver emergency alerts via multiple devices, such as computers, cell and landline phones, and the fort's existing public address system.

NASA awards $42 million Total and Spectral Solar Irradiance Sensor contract WASHINGTON, 16 July 2009. The University of Colorado at Boulder's Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics won from NASA a contract to develop the Total and Spectral Solar Irradiance Sensor (TSIS). The TSIS is considered a key instrument for the future National Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System (NPOESS). The total estimated value of the cost, no-fee contract is $42 million.
ITT wins follow-on contract from Canadian Forces for night-vision devices ROANOKE, Va., 15 July 2009. ITT Corp. won a $6.9 million contract from the Public Works and Government Services Canada to supply the Canadian Forces with AN/PVS-14 monocular night-vision devices. It is a follow-on order to the 2004 $19 million night-vision portion of the Canadian Army's Surveillance, Target Acquisition, and Night Observation program. Under the terms of the contract, ITT will supply additional AN/PVS-14 monocular night-vision devices to the Canadian Forces.
UltraCell wins U.S. Army CERDEC contract to deliver fuel cell systems LIVERMORE, Calif., 15 July 2009. UltraCell Corp., a producer of fuel cells for mobile power applications, won a U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Research, Development, and Engineering Center (CERDEC) contract to build fuel cell systems based on the company's XX55 reformed methanol fuel cell (RMFC) technology.
Military, rotorcraft insulate aviation, avionics from trying economy WILSONVILLE, Ore., 14 July 2009. "Military and rotorcraft market segments are going to insulate the aircraft production industry," explained Richard Aboulafia, vice president of analysis at Teal Group Corp., during his talk, "Coping with the Downturn: Aviation Markets and Companies Enter Uncharted Territory," at the Mentor Graphics Integrated Electrical Solutions Forum (IESF) 2009. Mentor Graphics, located in Wilsonville, Ore., designs and develops electronic design automation tools.
