BAE Systems delivers 100,000th uncooled infrared thermal imager LEXINGTON, Mass., 11 June 2009. BAE Systems has delivered its 100,000th MicroIR uncooled thermal imager, which will be installed in the U.S. Army's Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station (CROWS II). The 100,000 uncooled imagers produced since 1996 are used on products such as soldier thermal weapon sights, combat vehicle thermal imagers, and thermal cameras used by firefighters. They are designed and manufactured at BAE Systems' facility in Lexington, Mass.
Lockheed Martin achieves integration milestones on second SBIRS missile warning satellite SUNNYVALE, Calif., 11 June 2009. The Lockheed Martin-led team developing the U.S. Air Force's Space-Based Infrared System (SBIRS) has mated the spacecraft bus with the infrared sensor payload for the second geosynchronous SBIRS spacecraft (GEO-2), reveals a representative. The payload installation closely followed completion of spacecraft bus integration and safe-to-mate tests that included the first power-on of the spacecraft.
Harris Corp. wins $13.5 million in U.S. Air Force orders for vehicular radios, new digital tactical intercom communications system ROCHESTER, N.Y., 10 June 2009. Harris Corp., an international communications and information technology company, won a $13.5 million order to provide the U.S. Air Force with both vehicular radios and the new Harris digital tactical intercom system. The equipment will be installed in high-mobility multi-purpose wheeled vehicles or humvees (HMMWVs) in support of Air Force ground missions.
Raytheon wins contract for Office of Naval Research's Free Electron Laser program TEWKSBURY, Mass., 10 June 2009. Raytheon Company won from the Office of Naval Research (ONR) a 12-month contract to develop the preliminary design of a 100-kilowatt experimental Free Electron Laser for the U.S. Navy. This preliminary design is the first of a three-phase ONR Innovative Naval Prototype program worth more than $150 million.
FLIR Systems wins $7 million contract from Embraer PORTLAND, Ore., 9 June 2009. FLIR Systems Inc. won a $7 million contract from Embraer for the development and delivery of multiple units of its new NavFLIR airborne thermal imaging systems. The units delivered under this contact will be installed on Brazilian Air Force AMX swept-wing fighter jets.
Raytheon gains $217 million for Volume Search Radar for Zumwalt and CVN 7 TEWKSBURY, Mass., 9 June 2009. Raytheon Company won a $217 million U.S. Navy contract for two Volume Search Radar (VSR) arrays for the Zumwalt-class destroyer program and the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78). The Navy's Dual Band Radar combines the benefits of S-band and X-band radar capabilities for a range of environments, while its open architecture software design enables automatic operation with minimal human intervention.
Boeing B-52 with combat network communications upgrade makes 1st flight WICHITA, Kan., 8 June 2009 Boeing announced the successful first flight of a B-52 Stratofortress upgraded with Combat Network Communications Technology (CONECT), a modification that equips the B-52 with 21st-century situational awareness and mission flexibility. The aircraft made the 3.5-hour flight last month from the Boeing Integrated Defense Systems facility in Wichita.
Electronic warfare approach to IED threat to be built by Sierra Nevada Corp. SPARKS, Nev., 7 June 2009. Officials at the U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington are looking to Sierra Nevada Corp. in Sparks, Nev., to build 200 electronic warfare RF jammers designed to protect foot soldiers from radio-controlled improvised explosive devices (RCIEDs).
