Ascent solar modules to be designed into hybrid unmanned aerial vehicle
THORNTON, Colo., 30 May 2009. Ascent Solar Technologies Inc.'s flexible thin-film photovoltaic modules will be designed into the development of a hybrid unmanned aerial vehicle (H-UAV), the Silent Sentinel developed by Bye Aerospace Inc. The H-UAV will be designed primarily for military use; however, its capabilities will also include a broad spectrum of civil applications, according to a company representative.

Raytheon wins $30 million for SLAMRAAM production
TEWKSBURY, Mass., 29 May 2009. Raytheon Company's Surface Launched Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile (SLAMRAAM) program has gained U.S. Army approval for a long-lead acquisition, not to exceed $30 million, for long-lead purchases leading to low rate initial production, says a company representative.

Raytheon team to demonstrate tactical awareness, communications for dismounted soldiers
MCKINNEY, Texas, 29 May 2009. The U.S. Army has selected Raytheon Company's Ground Soldier Ensemble (GSE) team solution to demonstrate networked tactical situational awareness and communications capabilities for the dismounted warfighter. Raytheon won from the U.S. Army's TACOM Contracting Center $11.8 million to provide a GSE technology demonstration. The contract calls for early prototype testing in 2009, and refined systems delivery and testing in 2010.

Magellan Aerospace wins contract for RADARSAT constellation mission bus development
TORONTO, 28 May 2009. Magellan Aerospace Corp.'s Winnipeg-based division, Bristol Aerospace, won a RADARSAT Constellation Mission (RCM) satellite bus development contract from MacDonald, Dettwiler, and Associates Ltd. (MDA) of Vancouver, British Columbia. The RCM mission is being developed by the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) to provide C-Band data continuity to RADARSAT-1 and RADARSAT-2 users, and to support maritime surveillance, disaster management, and ecosystem monitoring.

EADS Defence & Security chooses wireless network solutions from Harris Stratex Networks
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., 28 May 2009. EADS Defence and Security (DS), a systems solutions provider for armed forces and civil security, selected Harris Stratex Networks Inc.'s end-to-end wireless broadband microwave transmission equipment and network service assurance solutions. Under the two-year contract, Harris Stratex will supply EADS DS with products and services, including the Eclipse radio platform, NetBoss network management solutions, and associated support services.

U.S. Air Force selects Sensis, Raytheon, Moog team for 3DELRR program
EAST SYRACUSE, N.Y., 27 May 2009. U.S. Air Force officials selected the team of Sensis Corp., Raytheon Company, and Moog Inc. for the Three-Dimensional Expeditionary Long-Range Radar (3DELRR) program technology development phase. The Sensis-led team brings radar system design, development, manufacturing, test, and support experience to the 3DELRR program, says a representative.

U.S. Army awards Raytheon team for U.S. Army Battle Command Development contract
FORT MONMOUTH, N.J., 27 May 2009. A team led by Raytheon Company won an indefinite delivery-indefinite quantity award for the U.S. Army Battle Command Development contract. The Battle Command Development contract, managed by the U.S. Army Communications and Electronics Command, is a five-year, multi-award vehicle worth up to $777.4 million.

Atlantis Astronauts use Ball Aerospace's WFC3 and COS aboard NASA's Hubble Space Telescope
BOULDER, Colo., 26 May 2009. Astronauts for NASA's STS-125 servicing mission to the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) installed two science instruments built by Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp. during their 13-day mission, They also completed critical repairs to two previously installed Ball science instruments.

Lockheed Martin F-35 CatBIRD shows key avionics capability, reliability at Edwards Air Force Base
EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif., 25 May 2009 The Lockheed Martin Joint Strike Fighter Cooperative Avionics Test Bed ("CATBird") aircraft recently completed a two-week deployment to Edwards Air Force Base, Calif., where it demonstrated the qualities of military avionics systems being developed for the F-35 Lightning II.
