Raytheon Standard Missile-2 intercepts ballistic missile
POINT MUGU, Calif., 28 March 2009. A Raytheon Company Standard Missile-2 Block IV missile intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile target at the U.S. Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division. The SM-2 Block IV engagement demonstrated near-term, sea-based capability for destroying short-range ballistic missiles in the final phase of flight.

Raytheon wins Wide Bandgap Semiconductor Development contract
TEWKSBURY, Mass., 27 March 2009. Raytheon Company won a $23.9 million phase 3 contract from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to continue work on the Wide Bandgap Semiconductor (WBGS) Development program.

Lockheed Martin's HIMARS launcher fires air defense missile
DALLAS, 26 March 2009. A Lockheed Martin High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) launcher fired two Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) during a U.S. Army "common launcher" feasibility demonstration at White Sands Missile Range, NM. Representatives from U.S. Army and industry conducted the "proof of concept" firing to examine the viability of firing an air defense missile from the currently-fielded HIMARS, says a representative.

Aydin Displays supplies rugged flat panels for U.S. Navy CDS program
ATLANTA, 25 March 2009. Video Display Corp.'s Aydin Displays Inc. subsidiary has made its first delivery of first article units (FAUs) for the U.S. Navy Common Displays System (CDS) program. Aydin Displays Inc. won the multiple-year contract to supply the U.S. Navy with 24-inch rugged flat-panel monitors for the CDS program. The contract will provide Aydin displays for the Navy's CDS consoles in support of the DDG and Aegis Modernization.

SELEX Galileo wins radar contract for U.S. Customs and Border Protection Citation fleet
ARLINGTON, Va., 24 March 2009. SELEX Galileo won a $9.2 million contract from TKC Aerospace Inc. to upgrade the Customs and Border Protection C-550 Citation Tracker Aircraft with its Vixen 500E intercept radar and associated mission management system. The contract is for the first two radars and mission management systems, with options for additional systems to upgrade the remainder of the fleet.

BAE Systems seeker detects smaller, faster missile in latest THAAD test
KAUAI, Hawaii, 23 March 2009 A BAE Systems seeker detected an incoming target representing a ballistic missile in the most recent test of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) weapon system.

NASA develops space instrument to test radiation exposure to astronauts on long missions
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., 21 March 2009. Aurora Flight Sciences won a NASA Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) Phase I contract to develop a compact charged particle spectrometer for use in manned space vehicles. The instrument will employ angle-detecting inclined sensor (ADIS) technology to identify and quantify charged particles, hazardous to astronauts on extended spaceflights.

Lockheed Martin to upgrade Taiwan navy P-3C maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft
EAGAN, Minn., 20 March 2009 Lockheed Martin won a $665.6 million contract to upgrade the Taiwan navy's P-3C maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft. Upgrades will include new military avionics and service life extension kits to extend the aircrafts' service life for an additional 15,000 flight hours.

Communications & Power Industries to deliver French military antenna systems
PALO ALTO, Calif., 20 March 2009. The Malibu Division of Communications & Power Industries Inc. (CPI) won a four-year contract from the French General Delegation for Armaments' (DGA) Centre d'Essais de Lancement de Missiles (CELM) to replace 19 telemetry antenna systems.

BURLINGTON, Ontario, 20 March 2009. Data communications semiconductor supplier Gennum Corp. in Burlington, Ontario, is set to acquire system interconnect semiconductor specialist Tundra Semiconductor Corp. in Ottawa for about 86 million Canadian dollars.
